Very nice example of a member success roundup from Brian's OOC

Just wanted to highlight a wonderful example by over at exploded media (his OOC about creating consistent video content).

Here’s the post, and my comments/takeaways follow.

As we know from both BADASS📕 and Retention Point📕, the act of sharing member success stories is gold dust for an OOC.

In an ideal world, members would go out of their way to share their own successes. But, apart from either self-promotion or goodwill, it’s hard to find the right incentives for them to want to do that.

So I love what Brian has done here by simply noticing what they are already putting out there, and then giving them the shoutout himself. Beyond sharing some inspiring member success (“If they can do it, I can too”), this also tags everybody in, gives them a powerful reason to re-engage, and more.

This sort of “observed” member success is something that I’ve been missing in the Nonfiction Authors’ OOC, since our members’ work tends to be hidden away in a manuscript for months or even years, where their progress is largely invisible.

But seeing Brian’s post has gotten me thinking about what we can observe for our authors, which might includes: adding all new members to a twitter list that we scan for book-related updates; their beta reading progress if they’re using helpthisbook; and scanning our members names for Amazon releases. Any of those could trigger an observed member success story/shoutout, which could be hugely meaningful for the feeling of momentum.

And I think it’s a question that every OOC should be asking: where are you able to observe your members’ progress and success? (As opposed to requiring them to explicitly tell you about it.)

I have a similar quandary and I was contemplating all of those solutions  in large part because I want opportunities to give feedback, receive feedback and see what's working.

TLV two ideas:
A regular meeting to practice live with other students (talking)
A chat channel (writing)
But I now realise that it's probably necessary to record those/take screenshots for proof!

I saw the post from Brian and began feeling that I could make it in the vid creation.
The truly inspiring stuff is, I guess, from peers who are gaining traction/success?

100%. For example, if I tell someone, "hey look, I did this and finished my book," they sort of believe me, but also sort of roll their eyes and think, "Well, that's easy for Rob to say." Whereas if it's someone they see as "just like them," then it hits a lot closer to home.

Nb. That means it was very good, because I was pretty low when I saw it!
